Norton House was rebuilt in 1716. A grade II listed building which is full of character and interest, tastefully renovated with inglenook fireplaces, oak beams, stripped pine shutters and doors, stone flag floors. Guest can relax in the comfortably furnished guest lounge, or plan their next day with a wide range of maps and array of tourist information in the reading lounge.

The bedrooms are all very individually furnished with every comfort in mind, all are fully en suite, with TV and courtesy tray, plus endless personal touches. Su and Richard have worked hard to achieve a Green Business Award and Gold Wildlife Action Award and are totally committed to sourcing local produce and recycling as mush as possible. We use home made or locally sourced ingredients in our extensive breakfast menu – Norton House Speciality breakfasts are a must and included in the price! Our evening meals are served by candlelight. All meals are freshly prepared, cooked on the Aga and served in the beautiful oak beamed dining room, with an enormous Welsh dresser, where guests can sit around the magnificent mahogany dining table. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural beauty, and a short walk from the River Wye, 10 minutes drive from Symonds Yat Rock, and the Forest of Dean. This is an ideal base for walking, biking, canoeing, bird watching or touring the beautiful Wye Valley, Herefordshire and the Welsh borderland.
Breakfast at Norton House is a real treat, and a wonderful start to the day, guests often remark that they haven’t needed to eat again until the evening! The buffet table offers a wide selection of cereals and muesli, local yoghurts, dried fruit, fruit juices and fresh fruit, often from our own garden in the summer. Homemade jams, marmalades and local honey grace each place setting to be enjoyed on toasted homemade or locally baked bread. Our range of cooked breakfasts are extensive to include locally made sausages, local cured bacon and eggs from the farm at the other end of the brook that runs through the garden!!. Our vegetarian guests enjoy our homemade Herby Cheese Fritters and Potato cakes, or there’s a Continental option for those who prefer a lighter culinary start to the day. As well as Craster kippers, we also offer our Norton House Speciality Breakfasts, which guest can order in advance. These include kedgeree, smoked haddock and poached eggs, buckwheat pancakes, stuffed tomatoes and so the list goes on. We try to source the ingredients for our breakfast menu as locally as possible, as well as growing and making as much as we can at home. The whole breakfast experience is completed with our guests sitting round the splendid Victorian mahogany table, in our oak beamed dining room with huge inglenook fireplace and enormous Welsh dresser.
